What is a Grove Workshop?

What To Expect
Our workshops are run by professional working actors who are also experienced in theatre-in-education.

Each workshop is designed to support the curriculum and cover specific themes of the text.

We can also build from scratch with your school’s specific needs in mind. This means that we could deliver a workshop/workshops around one particular text or give a more generalised workshop (for example, a workshop on understanding Shakespeare).

The workshops can be aimed at any year group.

We can bring costumes and props to the workshops to give the students a greater understanding of how they are used to tell the story

Types of Workshop

Weekly
We come to you for weekly workshops on the text of your choosing. Either as an after-school club, or as a scheduled part of your English/Drama lessons.

One Off
Using our set structure or collaborating with you based off of your needs we would bring a one off 2-3 hour workshop. Diving in to text, bring themes to life through acting games and touching on character arc and narrative. Bringing the piece to life through drama and games and allowing the students the freedom of dramatic interpretation.

We can create a made to measure workshop that works for your school's needs.
Managing affordability and creativity!

Pre GCSE
Help to prepare younger students for the texts they will be studying later in their education in an accessible and fun way. These can be one off or weekly as with our other workshops.
Additional Options

Activities Week
Many schools have a scheduled activities week, and Grove can feature as part of those activities. Whether it is a pure drama workshop or made to tie in with the curriculum (in a fun and engaging manner), Grove can come and bring the spirit of the theatre to your school.

Forum Theatre
This involves actors performing a short scene from the text (if the text is a novel, we will pre-write a scripted version), and then the students will redirect, and inform the scene by discussing the meaning, subtext, and motivation of the characters.

Post Show Q&A
You have the option for the students to do a Q & A with the Cast and the Director after the show. We are happy to answer text specific questions as well as questions about the process of putting on the show, and performance. As the cast have inhabited the characters, they are in a great position to talk about their motivations and what drives the character's actions.
